Richly informed by contemporary sociological theory, Manuel de Jesus Hernandez El colonialismo interno en la narrativa chicana distinguishes between the assimilationist and the internal colonialism models of Mexican American society and culture. The author applies the internal colonialism model for the first time to the representation of Chicanos found in their narrative literature. Among the categories of narrative discussed are the espacio pochista, the migrante, and the indigenista. The book is a signal advance in the sociology of Chicano narrative and its application to significant Chicano works of art.
