El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro

El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, the Royal Road of the Interior, is the earliest Euro-American trade route of cultures and commerce in the United States. It spanned about 1,800 miles from Mexico City, where the road originated, to Santa Fe, in New Mexico. For three centuries, this Spanish colonial road followed a network of ancient Native American footpaths and trails that followed the wide expanse of the Rio Grande valley. There were parajes, or campgrounds, along the way for travelers, and early Spanish settlements were established too. Some of the towns and villages are now modern cities, such as Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe. Mexico City, as the former capital of La Nueva España, New Spain, is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Center. In 2000, El Camino Real was officially designated as a national historic trail, administered by the US Department of the Interior. In 2005, the El Camino Real International Heritage Center was erected near Socorro, New Mexico. This is an interpretive learning center that presents the history and heritage of the Royal Road in the region as an integral part of Spain's global network of roads and maritime trade routes.

Brothers of the Light

Libro Brothers of the Light

The Penitente Brotherhood reenact the Passion of Christ through self-mortification of the flesh and emulation of His crucifixion each year in New Mexico during the Catholic Lenten season. This vital sect of ancient Spanish Catholicism has been shrouded in controversy and secrecy until this author's balanced exploration of its origins, rituals, and ceremonies. De Aragon includes descriptions of their art and their albados, or hymns, which are published here in both Spanish and English.

Portales

Libro Portales

Enigmans literarios

Libro Enigmans literarios

Is it possible to create an enjoyable and mysterious history of literature? Every author—novelist, philosopher, poet, or essayist—has any enigma to offer or reveal, either about their lives or about their works. For instance, do we know exactly where Cervantes was born? Are we sure that Conan Doyle was not a murderer? Why did Comte decide to create his own religion? Did Jose Cadalso exhume his girlfriend's corpse? Was Corneille Moiré's ghostwriter? Was Berbiguier harassed by imps? Maybe Jules Verne did belong to a secret society. Have any works been inspired by dreams—or by insanity?...
