La estancia de Alexander von Humboldt en territorios hispanoamericanos, entre 1799 y 1805, tuvo diversas repercusiones de caracter cientifico. A partir de que supo allegarse a todo tipo de informacion, tanto del poder como de los hombres de cultura de entonces, logro elaborar interpretaciones y exposiciones panoramicas, rigurosas y sistematicas de fenomenos y acontecimientos de estos territorios.
