A rich man had a garden in which he had planted pear trees sprung from seeds taken from Eden. If eaten, these pears were said to have rejuvenating properties. Since he never had the opportunity to sample his pears -- because the fruit was always stolen from the bough -- he charged his children with finding the thief.
