Esta investigación se concentra en profundizar el concepto de desarrollo sostenible y la viabilidad de orientar la ciudad hacia lineamientos de planeamiento urbano sostenible, que garanticen la adaptación al cambio climático para la prevención de desastres socio-naturales. Esta obra procura proporcionar una ayuda sistemática basada en la relación entre los materiales para la construcción como un todo y los factores contra los cuales deben resistir. En consecuencia, cada uno de los factores se explica por separado en función de su naturaleza y propiedades y luego se relaciona a una categoría específica. También se incluyen las propiedades de todos los materiales relativos a cada factor.

The book analyses a selection of 10 houses and 14 buildings constructed in Costa Rica from 2000 to 2005 and that represent the current urban San Jose's growth trends.
