En la primer parte del libro se encuentran líneas de sueño sobre el tema de amor. Se describen deseos o imágenes de fantasía. El sueño nos da libertad para darnos gusto y placer de amor. Por contraste, se sigue poesía de la sombra, el aspecto de vida que nos trae dolor, miedo, sino tormento en la busca de identidad y carrera en los años después de niñez y antes de la muerte. El sueño sobre tal tema se transforma desde un momento de alegría a la tristeza de una pesadilla.
