In a world where animals are slowly fading into extinction, twelve-year-old Kester Jaynes feels as if he is nearly extinct. Hes been locked away in a home for troubled children and is unable to speak a word. One night, a flock of talking pigeons and a bossy cockroach come to help him escape, and he discovers that he can speak to them. They need his help.

What happened one marvellous day while a little girl was walking by the seashore is that the wind took her precious little cap, that was green and even had a ribbon that was the prettiest part. This luck worried the girl that had allowed the cap to escape and very sadly, almost crying, she asks her mother what happens to caps that are lost at sea.
