This book is published to celebrate the awarding of the 2009 International Prize for Photography Citoler Pilar to Juan del Junco (born 1972). Since 2000, del Junco has explored a kind of comedic staged photography in which (for example) a young woman paints her plants the same blue as her dyed hair, or dogs look on while a couple make love.

The charming town of Los Gatos is nestled at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is sometimes referred to as the Gem City of the Foothills. It has inspired hundreds of postcard images through the years, many reflecting the areas abundance of natural beauty. As the town and surrounding area grew and prospered through agriculture, logging, and commerce, the local architecture and landmarks became popular subjects. Glimpses of everyday lifechurches, schools, houses, and businessesfurther enhanced the pictorial history the postcards represent.

El autor emprende un extenso viaje histórico por las imágenes que se han producido en la España contemporánea, estudiando sus tecnologías, los ámbitos de difusión que se crearon para contemplarlas, y los valores culturales que aportaron, en un período en el que se estaba conformando la nueva sociedad liberal. El grabado en madera, la fotografía y los múltiples espectáculos ópticos aparecen aquí en su dimensión histórica, mientras hacen comprender al lector las complejas estrategias de comunicación vigentes en las imágenes del pasado.

Life and professional career of photographer Moya considered one of the giants of the development of photojournalism in Mexico, particularly during the 70 year authoritarian regime of the political party PRI. Moya combined a sense of social and political journalism with a high artistic value in his photographs, obtaining a balance practiced only by Tina Modotti 50 years before.
