El Movimiento Moderno, nacido a principios del siglo XX y liderado por Le Corbus ier, propugna un mayor racionalismo y funcionalismo en la arquitectura. Este cua rto volumen de la colección Documentos de arquitectura moderna en América Latina se centra en la vivienda social construida entre 1950 y 1965 en Argentina, Bras il, Chile y México bajo las directrices de esta escuela. Fruto del proyecto del Grupo de Investigación FORM, que dirige Teresa Rovira, el libro recoge varias re flexiones sobre el objeto de estudio y una muestra representativa de proyectos.

Each book begins with an overview of the architect's style and accomplishments written by a leading architecture critic. Then, approximately twenty noteworthy works and projects are discussed by the architect and presented in detail with site plans, drawings, and black-and-white photographs.

The book is an historic and graphical account of the patios of "vecindad" (neighbourhood) in the port city of Veracruz, in a period that goes from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The foreword of this edition, states that the first record of a patio of a "vecindad" dates back to 1791, highlighting that those patios have seen the early years of musician and singer "Toña la Negra" and were the place of origin of the famous "picadas" from Veracruz, one of the most popular snacks of the jarocha traditional cuisine.
