(...) ¿Puede haber libertad sin memoria? ¿La arquitectura es necesaria para la libertad y la memoria, o la disociación total entre libertad, memoria, arquitectura y escritura es algo positivo para la humanidad? Hay quien anuncia una desaparición de la memoria, y de la escritura como memoria, pero no puedo dejar de pensar que a esta conclusión han llegado siempre todos los pensadores conservadores enfrentados a un cambio cultural importante, y siempre ha surgido una nueva memoria, una nueva escritura, una nueva arquitectura y una nueva libertad. No veo posible la vida humana sin libertad, sin un tipo de escritura, de arquitectura y, en fin, de memoria. (...) Can there be freedom without memory? Is architecture necessary for freedom and memory, or is the total dissociation between freedom, memory, architecture and writing something positive for humanity? Some announce a disappearance of memory and writing as memory, but I cannot stop thinking that this conclusion was always reached by all the conservtive thinkers facing an important cultural change, and there has always emerged a new memory, a new writing, a new architecture and a new freedom. I do not see that human life is possible without freedom, without a type of writing, of architecture, of memory.
