These guidelines were developed through a participatory process involving fisheries experts and managers from governments, the fishing industry, academia and non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations. They provide management guidance on factors ranging from an appropriate regulatory framework to the elements of good data collection programmes, as well as identifying key considerations and measures necessary for ensuring the conservation of target and non-target species.
