En lo referente a la historia, Pedro de Répide fue riguroso, en cuanto a la leyenda y el origen de los nombres de las calles, aceptó en muchas ocasiones lo que contaron escritores y cronistas matritenses de mediados del siglo pasado que recopilaron leyendas, tradiciones, hechos históricos,... Hay que decir que hasta la fecha no se ha vuelto a escribir un libro tan exhaustivo sobre las calles de Madrid. La recopilación incluye un total de 1044 calles, plazas, paseos, etc.
