En el 2016 se conmemoran doscientos años de la ejecución en el patíbulo, y por la espalda, de Francisco José de Caldas, primer científico colombiano, intelectual que no solo estudió la naturaleza, la geografía, el clima, las plantas y las poblaciones humanas de la nación, sino que, como ciudadano, se comprometió con la revolución política y la independencia. La Universidad del Rosario convocó a destacados historiadores, nacionales y extranjeros, que han investigado el proceso de independencia en sus distintas facetas.
